ARTIST RESIDENCY
at 'ISKROVOS' Arts & Music Festival, Panevezys, Lithuania, 2023
In the vibrant summer of 2023, an invitation to participate in the 'Iskrovos' Residency and Festival unfolded an extraordinary chapter in my creative journey. Nestled within the heart of Panevezys, Lithuania, this immersive experience unraveled amidst abandoned industrial spaces, weaving inspiration from the echoes of post-Soviet and post-industrial landscapes. This residency became an exploration, a dialogue with the industrial heritage of my hometown.
Enveloped by the textures and stories whispered by the disused relics, I crafted site-specific installations that embraced the essence of these weathered structures. Throughout the residency, a synergy emerged, amalgamating my impressions from the desolate surroundings with the vivacity of live performances, culminating in an ode to industrial heritage.
The culmination of this artistic voyage materialized into two distinct yet intertwined installations: 'Glitch Identity' and 'The Last TV Supper.' These works metamorphosed into their final forms, shaped by the resonance of the week-long residency and the grand opening night.
'Glitch Identity' beckoned viewers into an immersive exploration. Live camera feeds and the viewers' presence intertwined as integral elements. As visitors approached the camera's lens, their portraits underwent a fascinating transformation, glitching and distorting across an array of vintage monitors. Each monitor bore its unique flavor of distortion, prompting introspection into the significance of visually warped identities within the abandoned, forgotten spaces. It posed poignant questions regarding the relevance of these disused architectural relics, offering a reflection on their heritage and place in the realm of contemporary media and arts.
In contrast, 'The Last TV Supper' took on an object-based approach, animating a collection of CRT television sets, PCs, LCD monitors, vintage radios, and even a fax machine. These relics from the analog era breathed new life, broadcasting an eclectic selection of glitch art. The atmosphere was electrifying, the air filled with palpable energy. The hissing of white noise and the sporadic zapping sounds of glitches served as conduits, transporting viewers to a liminal realm, tinged with analog nostalgia. Within this installation, the screens emerged as portals, offering glimpses into deeper unknown spaces, inviting the audience to traverse through a visual hole into uncharted territories.
ABOUT ISKROVOS FEST AND THE CONNECTION TO INDUSTRIAL SURROUNDINGS:
Panevėžys, the fifth biggest city of Lithuania, was the industrial hub during soviet occupation years. Since Lithuania regained its independence more than 30 years ago, the city has been tackling the urban decay problem with many of its large factories abandoned. IŠKROVOS has taken the challenge to reconstruct the face of Panevėžys by celebrating its industrial past. We hope to bring the city’s forgotten streets back on the map by repurposing the key industrial buildings for this annual festival of music and art.
Industrial culture and its evolution could be dualistically defined as tangible and intangible. Tangible includes industrial landscapes and buildings that constitute the industrial heritage of a certain area and are often a target of preservation activities. Intangible industrial culture includes expertise, attitudes, values, traditions, and interlinked social factors beyond the factory. ISKROVOS programme encourages the debate on this topic between the residents and visitors of Panevėžys.

This transformative exhibition took place at the prestigious Artsect Gallery in August 2023, bringing together a diverse and talented group of both UK and international artists who used their creativity to make a positive impact on our society and environment.
In a world facing numerous challenges, ‘Art for Change’ harnessed the power of art to encourage reflection, ignite conversations, and foster positive change. The event celebrated the intersection of traditional and digital arts, showcasing a fusion of techniques, styles, and perspectives that captivated and inspired.
GLITCHES INSIDE ATOMIC BUNKER ///
ISKROVOS FESTIVAL 2022
Audiovisual installation for my piece “Crispy Grass Walk” using vintage PC monitors and a wall projection. The installation occurred inside a post-soviet atomic bunker in one of Panevezys, Lithuania's most industrial and partially disused areas.

Crispy Grass Walk is a piece made up of distorted field recordings and analog video textures inside a 3d cube in motion. This textural analog cube sequence reflects the crisp sound textures encountered in the frosty morning grass. The ambient audio textures were captured during the early hours and blended with the haunting resonance of the MS-20 synth drones.

SITE-SPECIFIC IMMERSIVE PROJECTION INSTALLATION
This installation was part of a collaborative workshop project called NARRATING STRUCTURES at the Ugly Duck, London 2022. Workshop led by Bianca Regina and Pierre Bouvier Patron.
Projection collaboration with artist David Koh.
David Lynch inspired elements, live camera inputs, analog glitches, and patterns to build this multi-layered site-specific projection.
